The Temporary Employment Service (TES) provides temporary workers for departments and institutions across the collegiate University. Workers typically provide cover for short-term staff absences, peak periods and temporary additional work. TES specialise in secretarial, administrative and library work and can often assist with cover for other support roles (including IT, finance, event planning, catering, cleaning and general maintenance posts).

A new application has been developed for the service to use and this went live on 5th April 2016.

Release one of the application is for use by the TES and Payroll Teams only and will provide more efficient facilities to allow them to manage and pay temporary workers. Authorised users can login to the TES application at: https://hrsystems.admin.cam.ac.uk/tes-webapp/

The key benefits of the new application are that it:

  • Removes TES team reliance on support from external sources and provide internal system support and on-going development;
  • Reduces manual administration by providing (in stage two) an online timesheet entry and authorisation system;
  • Provides direct mailing of payslips to temps removing the TES Team overhead for paper payslip distribution;
  • Provides the required reports to enable TES to fulfil its compliance obligations; and
  • Saves time and increase accuracy by integrating with the CHRIS system for automated transfer of worker details and payroll records.

The initial phase is focussed on replacing the existing TES team's existing Access database with the new internal system. The next phase will bring in online timesheets for temporary workers.
